Origin of the Whiting surname

Although there are differing opinions about the origin of the Whiting surname, it is generally thought to have originated in England during the middle ages. Wikipedia suggests the surname is of Saxon origin meaning 'the white or fair offspring', with the Saxon suffix "-ing" denoting 'son of' or 'offspring'. Another source links the surname to a marine food fish named Whiting that is found in European waters, especially abundant in the North Sea. It is because of that link that we have chosen this image as our logo, which is a play on the surname.
